Driving healthcare transformation

Dr Gaffney leads Camgenium (Camgenium is the trading name of L2S2 Ltd).

His deep knowledge of science, technology, health systems and quality compliance assist customers to develop new technologies and enter new markets quickly.

He is Cambridge educated, with a degree in natural sciences, followed by a PhD in geophysics and instrumentation and was a Research Fellow and Tutor at Churchill College, Cambridge. He was awarded an OBE for services to science and technology in 1997.

He has developed and built several high-tech businesses in Cambridge, including Seescan PLC (image processing and science research), Cambridge Advanced Electronics PLC and Camgenium.

He provides technical vision and drives the realization and commercialisation of good engineering for customers that want to compete successfully in global markets.

Dr Gaffney has developed has strong links between Camgenium and the University of Cambridge Department of Engineering. He lectures final year undergraduates reading medical device design. His links assist Camgenium to build its team of excellent graduates specialising in medical device applications and AI, further strengthening its world-class expert team.

Jane has a background in mathematics, having read mathematics at Cambridge University, and electronics engineering. She has responsibility for all non-technical matters in Camgenium.

Jane has always worked at the cutting edge of technology to create value from technical innovation. She set up a company to provide image analysis solutions to research scientists that took 50% of the UK market from the incumbent suppliers and then expanded operations into Europe before selling. In the early noughties, she set up a company to allow extra large files and folders to be sent as if they were email attachments. This company sold to a major logistics player.

With Philip Gaffney, she founded Camgenium in 2007.

Outside work, Jane is a keen amateur musician and enjoys walking and hiking.

Born and raised in Cambridgeshire, with a background in data management and systems analysis, I joined the company in 2014, and I have loved every minute of the journey - from the original L2S2 Ltd to today’s Camgenium.

As Operations Manager, my role provides me with the variety and challenge I relish: from customer support to operational troubleshooting; from precise project management to planning for the future development of the company - no two days are the same.

My particular expertise lies in the governance of medical data systems and in my ability to translate policy into practice. For me, the most rewarding part of the job is that moment when we know we have succeeded as a whole team in delivering an innovative customer solution that transforms their vision into a sustainable reality.

In my spare time, I ride horses and paddle board, both in competitive and collaborative events. I recently completed the Loire 725km race on my inflatable SUP in six days.

People who know me well know that I never like to stay still for long and am always looking for the next challenge, the next adventure, and that I have an innate passion for precision and excellence - which is why I’ve stayed with the company for so long: Camgenium provides the ideal environment for technological innovation and precise technical mastery for anyone wishing to push the boundaries of their own achievement.

Originally from Ukraine, I studied Physics at Oxford before moving to Cambridge to complete my PhD. I joined L2S2 Ltd, now Camgenium, in 2020 with a mission to help clinicians be more efficient with their valuable time and ever-shrinking resources. I am passionate about creating MedTech solutions that help doctors, nurses and hospitals access more patients and deliver better outcomes globally.

Problem solving was at the heart of my undergraduate and postgraduate studies and I still enjoy tackling complex, highly interdependent issues, which the world of Medicine is so full of!

I work with Customers and the L2S2 teams to produce medical device software as well as SaMD applications. Day-to-day, I design and build prototypes and products; head up the Applications team; write requirements, architecture, design, and other medical device documentation – a healthy mixture of technical and non-technical work! I particularly enjoy collaborating with the different teams at Camgenium as delivering a successful solution would be impossible without the input from many of our brilliant members.
